Plot and Story: This is loosely based on the K. M. Nanavati v. State of Maharashtra court case. Click here to read details on Wikipedia. Naval commander Rustom Pavri fights his own case as he pleads not guilty against the charges of murder against him. This was the last case to be heard as a jury trial in India, as the Indian government eradicated jury trials after this case.

Music: There isn't much scope for music in this courtroom drama. However, couple of songs are smartly placed and are decent. Background score is gripping and keeps the audience engaged.

Direction and Performances: Director Tinu Suresh Desai who had directed 1920: Lonon earlier this year does well in keeping the audience hooked up for all 150 minutes of this entertaining court room drama. As far as performances are concerned Akshay Kumar plays the character of Rustom Pavri with immense restraint. At no point of time does he go overboard. This is another impeccable performance from the superstar. Ileana and Esha play their part well and they get enough screen space to make their mark. However, the soul of this movie are the part time supporting actors. Sachin Khedekar, Kumud Mishra, Pawan Malhotra, Anang Desai and Usha Nadkarni all play their parts extremely well. The gags are very well placed too. Arjan Bajwa plays the bad guy with ease. He is convincing and first rate in his potrayal of cunning business man.

What does not work well?
While the plot is borrowed from the K. M. Nanavati v. State of Maharashtra court case, the movie only focuses on the jury trial and its result. It does not talk about what happened subsequently in the higher courts. Also, it does not tell whether the corrupt Naval officers were exposed. Also, no conclusion on the swiss money transfer. So there are a few loose ends but we can excuse them in the name of cinematic liberty.

Recommendation:  If you are a romantic or action movie buff, you may safely skip this one. Watch it if  you are a Akshay Kumar fan and have a liking for courtroom dramas. To summarize, Rustom does the right thing but in the not so right way.

Star Rating: 3/5.
