66 Years old Shivaji Rao Gaekwad better known as Padma Vibhushan Super Star Rajinikanth charms the audiences worldwide with his latest outing Kabali. The movie released on 22 July 2016 in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions.
This review is of the Hindi version and not of the Tamil, Telugu version.
Cast: Super Star Rajinikanth, Radhika Apte, Winston Chao, Dhansika
Director: Pa. Ranjith
What Works Well?
This is a no brainer. Super star Rajini charms with his usual style and grace. He is outstanding in the role of gang leader Kabali. Movie hall erupts with tallis and seetees(claps and whistles) on every move and every dialogue of Super Star Rajini and mind you we are talking about Hindi version and not the Tamil or Telugu version. This is clearly a one man show all the way, he is effortless and gets to play his age as well. Absolutely amazing larger than life depiction.
Another notable performance is that of Radhika Apte. She impresses in her part and does extremely well in the emotional sequences. Kudos to her for going from strength to strength with each movie.
Now, the difficult part of the review, What doesnt not work well?
Well, how do you look critically at a movie that is already roaring at the box office in the first two days of its release? How do you really comment on a movie for which holidays have been announced in certain companies? Because after all it is a Rajini Sir movie and not just another movie. But if we keep the superstar aside for a while and look at it then all we see is a damp squib. Really? Yes, it is not even at par with any of his own earlier releases like Shivaji - The Boss and Robot.
As far as the hindi version goes this is not in the league of Baahubali - The Beginning or any other hit dubbed movie you might have seen in near future.
Having said that, Kabali may still prove to be a blockbuster hit in hindi because...

Having said that, Kabali may still prove to be a blockbuster hit in hindi because...
- First ofcourse is the huge worldwide fan following of Super Star Rajinikanth, even among the hindi movie going audience
- Second is that the Super star does not appear in any TV shows and does one movie every two years
- Third, he makes very rare public appearances so if you have to watch him then you need to wait for his next movie release on the silver screen
- Forth he is a gem of a person and does not rely on cheap publicity by giving any unnecessary statements or interviews
- Fifth, there is no serious competition because there is no major release in hindi
At last, the storyline though not novel had the potential and this for sure could have been much much better if the director had done a good job. It may not go well with you unless you are a die hard fan of Rajini Sir, but if you are one of the real die hard fan then why read a review? Go for it.
Note: You know you are watching a real Super star movie when the name of the Super Star is displayed ahead of the movie name itself, that is, Padma Vibhushan Super Star Rajinikanth in Kabali.
