Movie Review: BadlaPur - Don't Miss The Beginning

Sriram Raghvan, the director of Ek Hasina Thi, Johnny Gaddaar and Agent Vinod returns with a thriller that rocks the genre of Revenge. This is a revenge story that will leave you amazed.

What To Expect

The title of the movie Badlapur says it all, it is a revenge thriller. The trailer and teasers of this movie have been made in such a manner that they leave you puzzled and curious about the story-line.

Sriram Raghvan has Ek Hasina Thi to his credit so the expectation from him is to take it to the next level.

What is Good

Performances: Excellent
Varun Dhavan gets a meatier role as compared to his earlier masala/ romantic outings. He lives the character well and delivers the emotions with his eyes. Very good attempt made by Varun.

The supporting cast of Vinay Pathak, Huma Qurashi and Divya Dutta play their part well.

But Nawazuddin Siddiqui carries this movie on his shoulders. He is natural as a bad guy and delivers a performance that will be remembered for a long long time.

Production Value: Good
Filmed at multiple locations in India, mostly Mumbai, Pune and Badlapur.

Music: Average
There is no scope for songs. But some short songs have been integrated well with the serious content. Background score could have been better.

Plot and Story: Good
This is old wine in new bottle. Typical revenge movie that on one hand attempts to show the emotional change that a person goes through for taking revenge and on the other hand it also shows how a bad guy can change over a period of time.

Script, Execution, Direction: Very Good

The director leaves his stamp of execution in all the frames. Audience is engrossed in the proceedings from the very first scene and there are few very scenes where you get off the proceedings due to slow execution. Thumbs Up for a job well done.

What is Not So Good

Background score and Thrills: Average
Background score is average and does not help to keep the viewers engaged.

Not a family movie: Some scenes are equivalent to Hollywood, not at all a family movie.
