Movie Review - pk

Movie Review: pk

Is pk Worth Your Money?

If you are tired to read too much just read one line below and exit.

This is NOT a cinematic experience which will make you feel ecstatic. Yet this is a very good movie in its class of comedy and drama. But Hirani doesn't take it to the next level coz the movie goers have already experienced it with Akshay Kumar starter: Oh My God

If you can to read the details read on, look at the greenred and yellow signals to decide for yourself.

Note: We DO NOT reveal the story. We DO NOT give ratings. We just tell you what worked v/s what didn't work from our perspective. We let you make your own rating/ decision.

What To Expect:

The trailer and teasers of this movie have been made in such a manner that they don't reveal the plot but at the same time create curiosity. A very good job done in the promotion.

But since it is a Vidhu Vinod Chopra Production of a Rajkumar Hirani film you kind of know what to expect. Isn't it?
All the earlier movies have been well made entertainers so yes from the preview, trailers this looks like this is another Curious Case Of A Guy With A Social Message  film.

What is Good:

Performances: Excellent
Amir is in excellent form. He makes it look natural and wins your heart.
Anushka delivers an outstanding performance and claims her spot for being the top actress in bollywood.
Sushant didn't get much scope.
Sanjay does alright in a cameo appearance.
Surprisingly, Boman Irani didn't get much meat of a role this time. Strictly average role given to him.
Saurabh Shukla does well in the role of a god man. Looks convincing.

Production Value: Good
Filmed at multiple locations in India and in for a short duration in Belgium. Art work is good but nothing of great significance.

Music: Very Good
Songs and beats are sweet and background music goes hand in hand with the story. Makes the movie lively and makes sure you don't lose interest in the plot.

Plot and Story: Good
This is a satire on God and God Man. We have seen it before, recently in the Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar starer Oh MY God. So the plot is not new. However, Hirani has presented it in an entertaining way. Treatment is very similar to his earlier movies.

Script, Execution, Direction: Good

The director leaves his stamp of earlier hits like Munnabhai series and 3 Idiots. So we expect this from the master story teller but this is not taking him beyond this earlier hits. He has set the bar very high for himself and it has not been raised with this movie. Still Thumbs Up.

What is Not So Good:

Post interval execution and Climax: Average
While the movie generates a lot of interest in the first half, there is nothing substantial in the second half. The climax is pale too. In short, there was nothing different than what we saw in Oh My God. Except that the God did not come on earth, this time it was pk.
